Located inside the stunning garden of Schloss Schönbrunn you find what is one Europes largest palm tree houses. If you have been visiting the palm tree house in Copenhagen you know how you are met with hot humid air that makes your glasses or lenses all muzzy. When entering the palm tree house in Vienna, one of the first thing you will notice is the rather cool climate. The pavillons consists in fact of three climate zones - the "cold", the temperate and the tropical. Therefore, you will also find an exceptional grand selection of species here. For my sake, I have never been that close to a flesh eating plant.
A short metro drive away from the city center lies one of the most beautiful and interesting palace of Vienna. The palace may be one of the popular spots for sightseeing. It gives you an inside into the pompous life of Kaiser Franz Joseph and his chosen one, Duchess Elisabeth, also known as "Sissi". Growing up in Germany, I have seen the famous "Sissi" movies, and fantasized about the princess life. Well, enough about that. When visiting Vienna, Schloss Schönbrunn is a must. You can astonish the castle from the outside and take a stroll through the garden for free, and pay to get inside to see the magnificent halls of the castle. We stuck with the "free" tour, as the weather was absolutely amazing, and the grand garden super charming thanks to warm autumn colors.
